In case you haven't noticed the heart-shaped candy lining the shelves of your local drug store or the sugary-sweet jewelry ads pumping through the radio and TV -- it's Valentine's Day.

While your significant other is out scouring the aisles of Hallmark for that beautiful card that is able to capture the wonderful complexity of your blissful relationship (i.e. the first one that fits in the envelope behind it), we have our own visions of the "perfect" Valentine's Day present.

PRSourceCode wants to know, "What Do Women Really Want for Valentine's Day?"

The results will be published in the March issue.

Award: Business 2.0 and Frog Design's Bottom Line Design Awards

Details: Good design is nice to look at, but great design goes far beyond aesthetics.  A truly well-designed product with a stellar customer experience can have positive effects on an entire company -- from consumers' perceptions of the brand all the way to the bottom line.  Most design awards, however, tend to reward form and beauty rather than the impact that beauty has on a business.  That's why Business 2.0, in partnership with Frog Design, is pleased to announce the Bottom Line Design Awards, which will recognize the positive effects of experience-driven design on businesses and their brands.  To be published in the April 2005 issue of Business 2.0 and thereafter on an annual basis, the Bottom Line Design Awards will celebrate innovative and well-designed products from companies across the globe.

Award: CIO Insight's Business-Technology Alignment Award

Details: CIO Insight, a Ziff Davis Media publication, announces its fourth annual Business-Technology Alignment Award, which honors companies that best exemplify how the alignment between business strategy and information technology can deliver value to the company’s shareholders.  The deadline for entries is May 16, 2005. The winner will be announced at a special awards dinner, to be held in New York City in November 2005.

Eleven esteemed business and academic professionals have been selected by CIO Insight to serve as the panel of judges.  They will evaluate companies based on six criteria: a clearly articulated business and IT strategy; communications and management processes that foster alignment; governance structures that support alignment; proof of the investment in technology that accelerates the company’s business strategy and metrics that measure the results; proof of measurable financial results; and human resource and management practices that encourage a culture of collaboration.

Professional Career

Time at o
rganization:
I started the Horn Group in 1991.  We’re celebrating our 14th anniversary this June.

Time in public relations:
Since 1983 – 22 years.

Client base:
Horn Group provides communications services to technology companies at every stage of growth – from start-ups that need to build visibility to large corporations striving to secure market leadership.  A few key accounts across the agency right now include Good Technology, Indus International, Telcordia Technologies, and Yantra.

Areas of expertise:
Media and presentation training, strategic counsel, company and product positioning, agency operations and employee management, as well as media and analyst relations

Work you are most proud of:
My proudest moments over the years have been when our work has made a real difference for clients during their most challenging times.  On a daily basis, I’m proud of motivating our employees and helping them solve problems.

Words of wisdom for an apprentice:
Be a straight shooter – “spin” is a
four-letter word.  Always tell the truth, and challenge your clients to be honest about what their products and services can and can’t do.  Know what you don’t know.  PR is about finding the truth and communicating it.

Information you would like the IT PR community to know about you:
Public relations is a people business.   It’s not always about the money and billings.  It begins and ends with your employees.  The Horn Group was founded and continues to center on the idea that good leadership and a good culture results in happy employees – which ultimately results in happy clients.  We have an outstanding benefits program, but what really differentiates the Horn Group as an employer is that we’re committed to developing our employees and providing a good place to work.  That’s ultimately how a company can successfully survive the tough times and thrive in good times.

The lighter side

Birth place:
Charleston, West Virginia

University:
Hobart & William Smith College in Geneva, NY – BA in American Studies

Boston University – MS in Public Relations

Favorite thing(s) to do when not at the office:
Playing with my daughters (ages 7 and 3), cooking, drinking fine wine, painting, and running

Last book you read:
How Does She Do It? : 101 Life Lessons from One Mother to Another by Sheila Ellison

Three things you would bring to a desert island:
1. My children
2. My significant other Keith Morgan
3. A gourmet meal

One person from history you would want to met:
John F. Kennedy, because he was a pivotal president in American history, politics, and society.  He was a such a smart man, who just didn’t have long enough to tell his story and fulfill his potential.
