The Council of PR Firms currently has more than 100 of America's leading public relations firms. It works with an advisory board of clients to identify strategic research that it will fund and to reinforce its efforts in promoting the strategic value of PR to business executives and MBA schools. Having conducted an assessment of seven reputation measurement systems, the Council has established criteria and principles that members will follow in their reputation programs. It conducts an annual review of corporate communications spending at Fortune 500 companies and correlates that information with the standings of the companies in various reputation measurements, such as Fortune magazine's "Most Admired Companies" list. Council publications address a wide variety of issues of mutual interest to agencies and clients; for example, "Hiring a Public Relations Firm: A Guide for Clients" helps companies streamline the process of agency selection. The Council also does Benchmarking Surveys on a broad variety of topics from salaries to business ratios enable members to obtain information and best practices that will assist them in improving the growth and profitability of their businesses.
